Gathering And Putting Sound On Your Site
Do you want to add music on your site, but don't know how? If you want to know how to add music and where to find music to add on your site, you have come to the right place.
Ethics! If the song is not something you wrote, sang, or played, it does not belong to you. Unless you have permission to use something someone else wrote, sang, or played, don't use it. Don't forget what happened to Napster!
Try to at least create your own music using one of the many music editors out there such as Sonic. If you are not musically inclined, go to one of those sites that offer wav or midi files and be sure to give credit where it is due if you use them. Even better, buy a clip to use. Coffee Cup has wav files for sale that you can use on your web site, just look under the tab for Instant Coffee.
I will admit a bias on this section. I hate web sites that have music that greet me. They take forever to load, especially when not done correctly. They might not be the songs I want to hear. I might even be listening to another song while your noise is drowning out my favorite song. Please, for the love of god, don't put music on your site without permission of the surfer! People like me will quickly go away before your site loads. If you want a sound, make it a really short one and not music unless your site is a music site. You may also use music if it is trying to get you to pay attention to something in particular such as a flash script for an ad.
Instead, have links the surfer can click on if they wish to listen to the song. If you have a song uploaded to your site, it will have a URL which could be something like http://www.yoursite.com/music.wav or http://www.yoursite.com/music/music.midi. Follow the same instructions for linking in the basics section. When they click on the link, their chosen media will play the song for them. This is the kindest way to have the option of music on your site. Try using this method to link your song,
<a href="http://www.yoursite.com/yoursong.midi">Click To Here My Song </a">To have your music greet the surfer, add this into your body tag:
<body ibgsound src="yoursong.mid">And underneath your body tag add this:
<iembed src="yoursong.mid" hidden="True">These tags can be added to your body or within your head tags. You can add features such as how many times to loop the song, on/off and so forth. But as I have stated early, please, just don't do it! Especially if it is not your song. Link it!
