How To Use Meta Tag Magic To Work For Your Site
An important command for your head tags would be the meta tags which a search engine reads. The meta tags tell the search engines important details about your site to help it classify where it should be listed. Often these overlooked tags are what leads to higher rankings in the top pages of a search.
When someone is using a search engine, they are looking for a certain type of web site and will type in keywords to describe what they are looking for. All sites with the keywords they typed will pop up in order of how they rank with that engine. The information listed will be the title of the page, the description of the page and the URL of the page. How does this engine know so much about a site?
A spider, bot or some form of mechanics will read the meta tags for your site and bring it back to the engine to process in the files. When you go to a search engine to let them know you want to be listed, the mechanics rush over to grab the info.
There are many different types of meta tags that help you attain a better ranking. Here are some of the tags and what they do.
<meta name="keywords" content="">. In between the quotation marks by content, put in one to three word descriptions of your site, but do not repeat the same word constantly which is considered spamming the search engine. About 10 - 15 keywords are appropriate. A neat tip for the key word, use a combination of words to count as one description. For instance, there are millions of mlm sites and if mlm is your only keyword, you won't get noticed. However if you use multilevel marketing business plans, your chances to get a higher ranking will increase since the chances of someone typing in two or more of those words in a search is better than someone typing in just mlm where there are so many others with mlm in the keyword. Also, make sure your keywords are appropriate to your site. You will not get valid, qualified traffic if they are sent there under false pretense.
<meta name="description" content="">. Search engines will list many dozen sites when someone types in a keyword. If your page makes it in the top three pages of a search, you need something to make the seeker want to click on your link. You need to do that with your title as well as you description which will show up in the search results. Word it so you will let the seeker know exactly what you have to offer and tempting to visit. In between the quotation marks after content, write about 2 - 3 sentences which describe your site.
<meta name="revisit-after" content="number here"> This command basically invites the search bots to come back every so often to update their records. The number should be between 14-60 depending on how often you want to be updated. Anything lower could be considered spamming the engine.
<meta name="classification" content="Business - Information - Entertainment - Free"> This command is more for the engines that groups sites according to type. It will place it in the category you have classified your site.
<meta name="robots" content="ALL"> This command lets all sorts of search bots know you are ready for them and welcome an inspection.
<meta name="distribution" content="Global"> This command lets the world know that you are open to the world and not local
<meta name="rating" content="General"> If your site is not for children, you would put something other than general. If your site is only for children, put in Children. This is to help filter out sites by those with blocking software.

<meta name="author" content="your name"> Give yourself credit. You did the work so let the world know you are the designer of this site.
