Do You Have The Knack To Build A Web Site?
To people like myself, certain things like working with logical order and codes comes naturally. To others, you may as well ask them to do brain surgery [unless you are a brain surgeon who can't cook and asked to prepare a seven course gourmet meal from scratch]. How do you know if you have what it takes to build a web site?
If you just don't have the knack, you can always hire someone to do it for you. The problem is sometimes hiring someone else to do it for you can be costly and the results may not always be exactly what you want, especially if you have no clear vision yourself.
Sometimes the thought of designing a web site brings up irrational fears that you could never do it and you give up without even trying or giving it a serious effort.
If you have an existing business and want to have a web presence, it is easy for you to hire a professional to create a design for you.
If you are starting a business from scratch specifically for an online audience, as long as you have a vision and a concrete idea of what you want to display, you can also hire a designer to do it for you.
If you have no business experience or vision for your business and do not have the knack for design, it is time to think about doing something else. As cool as it may seem to be a jet pilot, not everyone is capable of having that job. The same can be said about having a web site designed for making money or getting traffic.
If you have the knack, you can by-pass the middle man and design your site to create your vision and do it as many times as you would like. You could even make a side income of doing it for others. But how do you know if you have the aptitude for designing web sites when you have never done it before?

Does this scare you? If it does, you probably don't have the knack to build your own site. It doesn't mean you can never learn, but you must overcome your shortcomings.
If you said yes to everything, you may have what it takes to learn how to build a web site. Even if you have never actually solved the NY Times puzzle, the mere fact that you welcome the challenge and attempt it shows you have the knack to learn and try something new. If you have that type of mindset, designing a web site is not that complicated once you learn the basic codes and the reasons why things have to be a certain way.
