What Yahoo Looks For In A Web Site

There are two Yahoo! faces. One is the directory and the other is the search engine. It used to be a time when Yahoo! would share search engine results with Google, but all that changed in 2004. Yahoo! uses a different spider than Google, therefore the results you would get on both would be completely different.

Yahoo! still has its original directory which is very much like DMOZ. You need to start off at the main page at Yahoo.com and find your category and subcategory then find the link to submit your site. A human will review if it is appropriate and will eventually get around to posting it - if they feel like it.

Yahoo! will charge for a listing if your web site is commercial in any way. If your site is merely giving free information, you can get a free directory listing. If not, it will cost at the very least $199 just to be considered and for that fee it is not a guarantee you will be listed.

However, getting into the Yahoo! search engine is much easier. Just go to the main page and look at the bottom for a link to lead you to List Your Site and then choose the option for the FREE listing. Enter the main page URL and submit and the Yahoo! spider will come visit your site and pull up your links. It generally takes 4 weeks.
