What Google Looks For In A Web Site

This section is for both new and seasonal webmasters. For those who have been webmasters for many years, they may have encountered what is now being termed as the Google Vortex where a once high ranking site has disappeared from the listings, this section may enlighten you a bit on why. For those who are new, it is to help explain how Google works and is different from other search engines.

Why Google? It is the number one search engine. If you rank high on Google, you get traffic - lots of traffic! If you do not appear, your traffic may trickle or halt from search engines. However, take heart, Google is NOT the only search engine out there. If you do not show up on Google, there are other search engines which can bring you traffic.

Google has a highly guarded secret formula for ranking, but the basics are told on their web site. Simply, keep your page design honest, with relevant links, and fresh and you will be listed appropriately on Google.

As long as your web site is a relevant content page, Google will show favor by way of results. If you site is nothing but an ad, you can almost forget it. Google is trying to keep a reputation of being an unbiased search engine where the surfer can find the information they want. The filters they use to place the sites virtually weeds out high commercial sites that do not belong directly to the original business [basically all affiliate type sites are at a great disadvantage.] However, if you do have an affiliate site, you have hope as long as you have relevant information about your sponsor that is not anywhere else on the web. For instance - why do you personally recommend the business and what has it done for you?

Google will blacklist duplicate sites. If your web site is a basic copy of another site, you will eventually get weeded out if you have not already. They also weed out doorway pages, re-directed pages, and any other type of page that is less than honest that it is coming from you. Do not use heavy keyword saturation on a page as more than 20% of your keyword on a page will get you booted. Invisible text tricks will also get you booted.

Another thing to note, Google uses a page ranking technology based on how many relevant sites link to you. Do not get fooled - this does not mean you should blatantly ask all sites to link to you as this could get you banned. Slowly build up your links with sites that actually have quality information willing to exchange links with you. Do not settle for ending up on an all links page, but ONLY on a page with actual content. Link pages do not really matter if there is no relevant content.

As long as you build a correct web page, eliminate all web site tricks to manipulate the search engine, make your web page about something no one else has on any other web site, and link only to quality pages then you can be assured a sweet spot on Google. If you have fallen into that dark hole, just freshen up your site and inspect where you may have gone wrong. It may take 4-6 weeks before Google will notice the changes. If you have abused the system in the past and think you may have been blacklisted, just contact Google once you have made the improvements and keep it honest.

Submit Your Site To Google Directly

As long as you have a link to your site anywhere on the Internet, the Googlebot will find you. If you don't want to take any chances, you can do it directly. Just find the specific Google that relates to your site.

HOT AFFILIATE OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE FANS OF GOOGLE

Google Adsense is a program for affiliates with content based web sites. There have been people who have made over $20,000 a month with this affiliate program. Although this is not something I put a lot of effort in, I make a decent income with it.

How does it work? When you sign up, be sure your site is live and complete and you have a fair amount of traffic. Be sure your web site does not contain anything considered offensive such as pornography, gambling, smoking, drinking, hacking, or stealing anything with a copyright protection because this could be grounds to disqualify your application. Your site will also be disqualified if you have nothing but a banner farm, more than 3 ads on a page, are on a free site, or you use web site tricks for the search engines such as cloaking [masking multiple keywords in the text that matches your background so it cannot be seen] and keyword spamming [repeating the keywords so many times that it artificially inflates its ranking].

If you are approved, you can choose to put either a banner or text link for the ads and also have the option for the Google search engine. The ads produced by the Adsense program are based on the content pulled from your page. If your page is about cars, the Adsense ads will be car related. If your page is about food, the ads will be food related.

The reason behind it is anyone coming to view the information on your site is interested in that topic and will probably be more interested in more on that same subject. If they click on an ad, you get paid a percentage of the value of the click. It can quickly ad up if you have a site with good content.
